75 participants from the District of Mali, Sasa, Naduri and Macuata were part of a Boat Master License training and Safety procedures while on water that was facilitated by the Fiji School of Maritime academy of the Fiji National University.

The aim of the training is to inform boat operators to be law abiding citizens and ensure that they operate at sea with a proper license.

It was also an opportunity to update the participants on the current laws on maritime safety and procedures that are needed to mitigate potential risks at sea.

WWF-Pacific’s Community Development officer Metui Tokece said the participants use the sea as a means of transportation and livelihood on a daily basis and it is vital that they are aware of the laws and regulations on maritime safety and procedures.
